Question about 'Stop Windows from saving the thumbnail cache (THUMBS.DB)' Double negative?

I have a question about Stop Windows from saving the thumbnail cache (THUMBS.DB):

Is it possible that we have a double negative here? I have read and re-read the article and feel the advice is the opposite of what is intended. It depends what is meant by "turned off" but I guess that the "Do not cache thumbnails" option in Explorer should be checked - which to me is "turned on". However for clarity I feel that it might be as well to talk about checked or unchecked rather than on and off. If I have misunderstood something I apologise - Doug

Checked = disabled....unchecked = enabled...

In any option that I have ever seen in Windows, the option is in the form of a statement.
Either opposite the default condition or opposite the existing condition.
If you want that statement to prevail, check it. If you dont want it to prevail uncheck
it. It isn't a matter of whether the statement is negative or not, just whether it
controls or not.

***replying to triplate's query:

I AGREE THAT THE FIRST POST IS INCORRECTLY WRITTEN. SO, YES, *DO* CHECK THE "DO NOT
CACHE THUMBNAILS" BOX IF THAT IS YOUR INTENT.

I myself think the statement was (sorry) a little unclear...

"Step 2 ('Choose the View tab, and turn off the Do not cache thumbnails option.')
was simply unclear to most English speaking readers...

It would've been much less CONFUSING if it had simply stated: "Choose the View tab,
and CHECK the 'Do not cache thumbnails' to turn off thumbnail caching...".

: )

Doug & Paul are both correct, and I see that this thread is 4 1/2 years old - so why hasn't the obvious correction been made? The annoyances.org statement on how to stop windows from creating the Thumbs.db files is confusing and needs to be changed. I'd suggest that whoever is procrastinating on correcting this just go ahead and make the change that Paul has suggested. It is much more clear and accurate, and would be a great service to your readers/visitors/those like me, coming here to seek good advice. Thanks!

Sadly, you may say, the publication of the books and the tips are quite separate from this forum - which is to say the authors seem never to read it :-(
