New hardware Printer Driver not working in XP

Actually, neither my Rage fury pro Graphics card NOR my brand new Hewlett Packard deskjet 3820 work in XP. The driver is there on the CD, but XP cannot see it. I've moved the driver to a floppy, and to the C:Windows directory with no luck. Even though it is there, XP does not even display it is there, and the file type box is grayed out. I had no trouble loading the driver software for the HP on my laptop that is running win 2000, and it works fine on that machine. Any ideas? I'm stumped, and frustrated.

Neil: download the XP driver for your printer from the HP site at the link below
after your text.
copy the driver to a floppy or CD.

then use the Add a Printer Wizard;
click Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, Printers and Faxes icon;
click Add a Printer option in the left pane to open the Wizard;
select the Local Printer Attached option,
try the Automatically detect...

if not detected, proceed as follows from the above point;
click Next,
select the correct port,
select your printer,
when you click "Have Disk", use your downloaded driver disk,
the Wizard is looking for a file with an .inf extension.
set as default printer.
print a test page.
the icon for your printer should now be available.

The serial number is MY3A24P41H We replaced the ink cartridge thinking that this might be the problem, but it is not? Just does not respond to the computer?? Chips

Joe's List / System cleanup

Do you have a CD that came with it? If so run it and install the driver before hooking up the printer. If you don't have a CD, download the full driver package fromk the HP site and install it. Then plug in the printer and XP will load the driver for it.

Repair install / Clean install

I too am having a problem locating & downloading driver for HP 895Cse printer. My HP CD can not be used with XP-Pro & when I try to manually install HP driver, I am instructed to use the wizard list of manufacturers & models. When I do a Windows update on this, there is not model 895Cse listed under HP nor Hewitt Packard. Is there another web site where I can download the driver for 895Cse?
