what you're asking requires a binary or hex editor and editing a very critical system
file which is not advisable..

Actually this is rather simple and requires no editing.

Goto:

start >> control panel >> system

Then click the tab named "Computer Name"

Give it a name and click ok.. then log off user and you will see the change.

VEry simple, very easy to change.

Thanks,

Shawn HOffman

Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Computer Name tab - click the Change button and enter the new name for the PC, then click OK. Click OK to exit out and then reboot the PC. Hope this helps. Cheers. Spexx.
