Question about 'Stop Pop-Up Spam Messages'

I can not seem to stop these pop-up messages. I have downloaded ad-aware and they
still spam me. I tried to go into the services menu you descibe but can not find
it. Please help. I have been getting over 20 of these things a day when I am not
even conected to the web.
Is Kazaa the source of these? Am I doomed because I have kazaa? Please reply, Thank
you.

Kazaa isn't your problem Windows is, go to start>run type "services.msc" (no qoutes)and
hit enter , from the list find "messenger" right click and choose properties , from
the general tab push the stop button , now in the dropdown box just above that set
the startup type to "disabled" that should get rid of the "webpopup" type popups
and has nothing to do with Windows Messenger, oh and enable the XP firewall on your
internet connection!! Case

Case is right... but IMO Kazaa can be a source of trouble on its own. Everyone has
found the messenger box and it will likely haunt us until MS discontinues it.

If it is messenger you are having trouble with disabling, you need to goto run...
in the start menu and type gpedit.msc, but this only works in XP. Then once the
applet opens, you need to select administrative templates\windows components\messenger...
Select both the options there and double click on them and scroll down to enable...(*note
this applies to both main categories COMP. configuration and User configuration)
this should prevent Messenger from starting when windows starts for all users.
I hope this helps... If you do not have XP pro, I recommend you upgrade or you will
have trouble with this for a while... Unless you disable Messenger service from
the services.msc applet...
Good luck and hope this helps,
Dave

I cannot find the path to execute your instructions. I am using windows xp but must
not have the upgraded version. When I go to the Start button I see "run" , "control
panel" "my computer" ,etc. and the various programmes that I run. Can you be more
specific for a new/old user like me?

i seem to be getting only partial help from all the messages i've read here. i got
the services window open but there is NO "messenger" on my list... could it be under
something else? OR does it make a difference that my XP is an upgrade from ME?

Check this one out: http://www.icpug.org.uk/national/features/030429fe.htm
You can download a free utility from www.SpamSlammers.com too.
Hope that helps.
