HERE IS THE ANSWER: Right-click on the desktop, choose "Arrange Icons by", go to "Lock Web Items on Desktop", un-check that.

You must be proud of this one - posting it twice. Now we know the answer, so what 
was the question? I get it, this must be Jeopardy.

The question WAS...how to make icons opaque!!!!

lol I don't even have this option.  Is it only in Pro?  Or does it require some other 
option to be set?

No, my web items on desktop are still locked with a customizable choice of different background colors. This "answer" of yours does not help, maybe for most people u r stating the obvious but there are problems which are in depth like mine. It seems to be as if it is permanently locked. Have u got an answer for this??
