I have a question about spam appearing even before opening a browser. I am using a DSL connection. Is there a way to stop these? Thanks

Turn off the Messenger Service - it is not needed for most home computer applications and it is what Pop-Up spammers use to irk you...

I want to turn the Messenger Service off and will do so if you could just explain to me what exactly it is used for? Thank you.
