HDD Free space loss

Hi,
For compatibility reason I managed to install XP on a Fat16 partition; so I had 2GB.
After XP and application installation, there was about 300 MB left. It was some month
ago.
I move the virtual memory cache on another partition, I cleared the IE cache, I use
only one account, I used windows washer and disable prefetch mode. Now, I have about
120 MB HDD free. Maybe I had installed one small application or two; that doesn't
explain a minimum of 150 MB vanished.
My question is: where are those MB ?
I suspect XP to make some log and backup of software and driver information regularly.
Can we regain the space ?
Thanks for your help
Philippe

I would recommend that you put XP on a bigger partition it can barley breathe on
a 2G partition Go into “control panel>system>advanced tab>environmental variables”
and move the “temp” and “tmp” off of the windows partition most browsers
have a setting to move there temp files if you would like to move the “C:\documents
and settings\” structure post back and I will give it to you good luck, Adam

You probably can't recoup enough to make a usable difference. Running XP on anything
smaller than 10G is just asking for problems..
