need driver to make video in/out work
Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 8:37 pm
Posted by Patrick (8 messages posted)

I have an old Gateway Solo 9100. Sometime last year I upgraded it from Windows 98 to Windows XP. Since the upgrade I have lost the use of my video in/out. I traced it to a missing driver for my "multimedia video controller." This is some kind of decoder that I guess works on top of my video card. I guess the decoder is a C-Cube ZiVa. C-Cube is no longer around (acquired by another company), so no XP driver was made for the decoder. I do have the Win98 C-Cube driver on disk. Basically my question is, "is the use of my video in/out gone forever?" Maybe I could find another driver that would trick the device into working. Maybe the Win98 driver could be altered in some way to work. Any help, tips, would be appreciated.

I'd say your out of luck....
only thing that might work is if you can find
a win2k driver somewhere for it -
sometimes they would pass....

Upgrade of Gateway 9100 to XP
Friday, May 9, 2003 at 1:56 pm
Posted by Michael (1 messages posted)

Patrick, I also wish to upgrade my Gateway 9100 to Windows XP and the pretesting is warning me about the following potential issues, saying in respect of them I "might need additional files": (i) the "C-cube DVD", (ii) a Hard disk controller "Storage Adapter Bridge Module (TPP)" and (iii) the Network Adaptor "WAN Miniport (ATW)". Did you get these warnings and, if so, did you do anything about them? If you did, I would be grateful to know what worked. I do not use the video out ports at all so loss of use of those would not be important to me. Was the upgrade otherwise successful? I would be grateful for your help. Kind regards Michael

Since a couple of people have responded about this I guess I'll write about what has happened since my last post: After all the time searching I could not find a driver that would make the video out work on WinXP for my Gateway 9100. I ended up making a partition on my computer for Win98, I then used the old C-Cube driver and got my video out to work, but obviously only on the new Win98 partition. So now to use my video out I have to boot up to the Win98 drive from WinXP. I couldn't think of anything else to do, and partitioning my drive just to gain the use of my video out seemed like a challenge to me "just to get it to work." My advice to the people with same problem - either forget about the use of your video out, reinstall Win98, or make a new Win98 partition on your computer. But of course, when partitioning, BE CAREFUL!

Hello all, I have a 9100 xls, I did upgrade to xp and everything went smooth, I did noticed the C-cube, listed in device manager as "multimedia video controler" what I did to have a dvd working was, to disable this under other devices, then reboot, and I installed PowerDVD, it works!!! now I do not use tv/video in or out, but I do see the dvd's in my laptop display, the new problem I have now is that there is no video accelerator detected, wondering how to solve that, but everyhting looks good so far. For the c-cube drivers, try this link:

http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads13/27278.html

If the website asks you for a username and password enter "temp" and "512"

.. Um..

What you did is disable the HARDWARE DVD decoder and install a software DVD decoder..
.. You shifted the work to the CPU.. .. Not recommended with less than a 300MHz processor.
(And even then kinda iffy...)

I've rebuilt 15-12 Solo 9100's (and 9150's)...
Been through all this before....

If you have the "Portable System Restoration CD", the c-cube installation is on that, but you can't "see" it if you just let the disk run. You need to right click on the CD drive and click "Explore" then the 9100 folder, and the c cube installation is in that folder. Good luck I just upgraded to XP and found your question as I searched around for info about getting the DVD to work with XP. Guess I'll forego the DVD player.

try these drivers. they are for a creative card that uses the same chipset and has video in and video out per rca. And there are drivers for windows 2000 and windows nt. It is the creative dxr2. Post back if this works with windows xp. I dont have xp installed but am thinking about it and came up with this by mistake. I have done numerous searchs for the c-cube befor and missed this one.

Do you have Windows 2000/NT 4.0 versions of these drivers? I have a Solo 9100 preconfigured with Windows 98. I recently upgraded the OS to 2000 and lost the use of my DVD player as a result. I had my Multimedia Disc on hand to install most of the video/audio drivers under NT 4.0 but the DVD player software was no where to be found on that disc (where is it anyways?). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased a 60GB hitachi travelstar HDD for my gateway 9100 solo. It only sees 8.4GB of the drive, and the hitachi installation pdf file (on the hitachi website) indicates that this is because the BIOS "does not support Interrupt 13 Extensions". Does anyone know how to get around this? I have the latest BIOS (v8.47).

Managed a download from driversguide "CCube.zip DVD now works smooth in win 98, but the TV IN/OUT does not..found vidcap32 and installed but says no Video Capture device is present...anyone any ideas ?? Is it that the driversguide CCube files are only for DVD playback and not for capture (TV IN/OUT) ! If so has anyone got the full driver set ? Thanks in advance

OK now I have got both DVD and VideoCapture TV IN/OUT working fine. Goto driversguide get a logon and download the AVI file, (search for "gateway solo 9100" and all files/drivers will be listed including the AVI file) The AVI is basically a capture driver for the 9100 Trident Video Card. I might add that the capture quality is pretty ---p ! But I guess that is to be expected from a 4mb graphics card.
