You cannot disable the security center or its splash screen with McAfee Antivius
Home Edition v8.
You CAN disable and then uninstall the security center with no bad side effects with
McAfee Antivirus Pro V7 which is just as new as the v8 Home Edition.
McAfee has detailed info on their site freely available in the help section on step
by step on how to do this.

I'm running McAfee Security Center/Virus Scan Online
with Windows XP Pro.
I disabled the splash screen by navigating to this registry entry:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and modifying the string value MCAgentExe to:
c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe /nosplash
Hope this helps

lol! Please don't cancel your contract with us!
Mcafee blows - plenty of useful freeware products out there- spybot, adaware, zonealarm,
trendmicro.com, even mcafee's own website offers a free scanner - and they dont slow
your pc down to a crawl with things like security center

I've tried to uninstall with add an remove programs as well as thru the safe mode.
When the program is almost finished installing, an error message pops up saying
unable to complete uninstall. When I restart, 4 or 5 Mcaffe windows open stating
that some components are missing and I must reinstall mcaffee, I don't have it to
reinstall. How can I disable the Mcaffe security center period? Thanks for anyhelp

This refers to McAfee VirusGuard v8.5.0i - using Vista Ultimate....
Remove your Network connection.
Right click VirusScan icon in taskbar and select VirusScan Consol.
Select "Access Protection" and stop the service.
Via Vista COntrol Panel select "Administration Tools", then select "Services".
Select "McAfee Framework Service" and Stop the service.
Select "McAfee McShield" and Stop the service.
Select "McAfee Task MAnager" and Stop the service.
From start menu in the start search field, type "regedit".
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\DesktopProtection
Select "bSkipSplash" (in the Data value you should see 0x00000000).
Right click the entry and select Modify.
Change the Value data to 1 and click ok - (in the Data value you should now see 0x00000001).
Close all windows and restart the pc.
Once restarted you should not see the splash....
Now right click VirusScan icon in taskbar and select VirusScan Consol.
Select "Access Protection" and start the service.
Reconnect your network.....Done!

THANK YOU MARTINE!
- This fix worked for me (Enterprise Version 8.5) when other methods failed. My machine
was hanging when I tried to use the ALERTS tab in the console, (which isn't the easiest
thing to find).
Make sure to shut down the services as explained or you will not be able to change
the registry value.
No more splash screen for me... awesome!
