I have a question about disappearing desktop icons. Occasionally when I click on
a desktop icon it will diappear for a few seconds.Can anyone tell me why?I have asked
several people and no-one can tell me. I would appreciate any input.Customize Windows XP Styles:

There are a couple of Viruses that some antivirus software has trouble identifying.
Try looking in Control Panel add/remove programs and make sure there is no program
called Friendgreet or winsrvc in there. If there is you need to do some manual removal
of these programs and associated folders. If nothing there, look in the Task Manager
and see if they appear in there.

The icon disappears momentarily because it must be repainted as selected as opposed
to not selected. I'm sure you've notice that desktop icons look different when they
are selected. That's all that is happening. System lag can cause a delay in repainting
the selected icon, causing the icon to disappear momentarily.
