I was just wondering if it is necessary to have this driver in my computer? I am
running Windows XP and would really appreciate any feedback on this.

Does this item have a question mark next to it?
If so, it's a modem that has been identifed as a communication controller but since
the driver isn't included in XP's built-in cache of drivers, Windows can't say for
sure what kind of modem it is.
Install the driver that came with the modem.

Dan,
Just wanted to say a BIG thank you. I have been tearing my hair out all day trying
to figure this one out. Finally managed to borrow a laptop and come across your response
after a quick Google. My PC's modem now works. Top marks, and again thanks! :)

I also had the same problem. If you check the software that came with your computer
you should find the drivers for your modem or it will be on your motherboard CD.
If that does not work, look for the FCC number on your modem and go to http:\\www.fcc.gov
and type it into the search box. This will tell you who made the modem, then you
can go to their website to download the drivers.

Charlene, I am having the PCI issue listed above. I just recently loaded XP and now
I have question marks next to the "other devices" & "PCMCIA" in the device manager.
Is this also a driver issue and if so how determine the needed for correcting the
problem.

I installed my modem, intalled the drivers for that modem. In the device manager
the modem drivers are fine, but I am still missing drivers for the PCI Simple Communications
Controller. I cannot connect through the modem, or the Lan. Help me, Help me, Help
me, Please. Also drivers for that are not to be found on the net.
