norton AV splashscreen fix - possible bug??

hi i installed the reg files to remove the splashscreen in norton AV and it's the
only recent change i've made. now i can't start winamp v.3 i get a popup error

-Assertion failed-
Expression: f->ptr filesize
File: C:\projects\studio-488d\Ns_database\Vfs.cpp
Line: 149

reinstalling winamp didn't work and i searched the registry for references to that
directory with no luck. c:\projects...etc does NOT exist on c drive.

does anyone think that this might be related? thank you :)

1. Did you make a backup or rename the registry entries before making the change.

2. If you know what changes were made, can you manually change it back again.

-kicking myself-
1. no (dumb move)
2. not sure what keys were edited.
although, i found a workaround at winamp's site :) so that is no longer a problem.
i still think it may have been due to the registry writing, but have noticed no other
errors. i'll keep my fingers crossed. if anyone else notices a cause/effect relation
between this reg/norton splashscreen fix and winamp or other progs, i'd be interested
to know. thanks!

I didn't change or install anything that I'm aware of. And now I'm suddenly getting the same error message with Winamp 3, and just yesterday it was working perfectly. How did you resolve it?

hi,

I'm getting exactly the same pop-up error in winamp, in my case it happened after
installing Auto Mp3 Renamer v2.2 and Tagscanner v4.7

can't seem to get rid of this error either, even after uninstalling those programs
& reinstalling Winamp ...

check winamp's site and do a search for: Assertion failed thats how i fixed the error. seems some things (installs etc) corrupt part of the winamp

Delete the contents of the "Winamp3/db" directory. This happens when the database gets corrupt. Currently there appears to be no safeguards in Winamp3 for this. Helmut

I am recieving the same error with winamp 3... I am running NAV corp edition, but I have made no changes to the registry. I have however disabled many services today which have been bogging down my computer ... I'm sure one is needed as this is the only change I have made.

Cool, i've been scratching my head for the past hour wondering what the heck was up with Winamp, thats weird that all a sudden this has been happening to everyone. This Assertion Failed thing has been spreading over the last couple weeks i've noticed in other forums. thanks for the help, party on to your winamp, woohoo!
