Instructions on How to disable the Messenger Service: Windows XP Click Start -> Control Panel Click Performance and Maintenance Click Administrative Tools Double click Services Scroll down and highlight "Messenger" (a single click) Right-click the highlifghted line and choose Properties Click the STOP button Select Disabled or Manual under the "Start-up Type" menu selection Click OK No need to reboot Buh-Bye Web Pop-Up advertisements!!!

Stacey, Thanks for posting instructions that even the cyber-challenged can follow. One small suggestion: Once Control panel has been started, make sure that panel display is in "Category View" as opposed to "Classic View."
