QuickTimePro 6 - no disk error

I recently tried to view a .mov from CD-ROM on my XP home version box and recieved
an error dialog box:

c4: qttask.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk0\DRO.

and now, everytime I attemp to open a .mov file (either by double clicking the file,
or using file>open in QuickTime) I receive the error dialog box:

[filename.mov]: QuickTimePlayer.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk0\DRO.

After selecting cancel or continue 4 or 5 times, the dialog box stops popping up
and QuickTime loads and plays the selected file.

I use QuickTime frequently and this is the first trouble I have ever had with it
(stemming from the initial incident of double clicking a file from a CD-ROM). Subsequently
I have deleted and reinstalled the software multiple times but the problem persists.

Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:
Open Quicktime, Go to File>Open Recent>Clear Menu
Hopefully, that will clear the CD .mov file that you played from QT's memory and
eliminate the error message.

Or you can simply rename the qttask.exe file to something else or delete it, and remove any reference to it in teh registry. qttask.exe creates the icon in the bottom right of the task bar, but it is not needed for an playback of files, I deleted mine, no more error. g

This wa very helpfull. I was having the error with qttask.exe at startup, but also with te quicktimeplayer.exe. I removed qttask.exe, that no disk error went away, but I couldn't of course delete quicktimeplayer.exe. This tip about clearing the recent movies seems to have done the trick. Thanks g
