Ok here are two scenarios, two machines, 1:) mine a P3 733 with Asus board Win xp pro and Hp officejet V40-- works fine, prints well, 2:) AMD Duron 1300 mhz and ECS mainboard, brand new out of the box fresh install, new case, new HD also with HP V40 printer, fax, scanner, printing sparratic intermittantly, will print some pages, but will spit out the spool back at the computer. and the Document fails to print. after switching the same printer with mine, it was still doing the same thing, no problems with the printer. could it be A.) USB COMPATIBILTY WITH MB? B.) Corrupt HCL in XP? C:) Office xp Problem? D:) Evil alien living in case? E:) Typical breakdown of hardware after the 30 day RMA time is up? I need some smart answers here people. event viewer gives software error ..Failed to fire...

When you switched printers did you also switch cables?
If the printer has a parallel port try using it instead the USB cable (I assume from the A.) that it is connected by USB
Good luck, Adam Bradley

VIA or SIS chipset on the motherboard? I suggest you check for updated system drivers from ECS and hope for the best. Frankly if its ECS and SIS, I'd vote for "D" Evil Alien in the case.
