XPs fax viewer just doesn't cut it. The old ones in the old OS's work fine for what I need. Is there any way to load one of those old imaging programs on XP and make it work?

Get the latest version of the Kodak software to be safe.

Really, but the question is how exactly do you install a program off a win98 cd on to an XP machine. There isn't a straight forward way.

That you can't do, but I don't think you got the Kodak software from the W98 CD.
I had forgotten the Wang software that did come with Windows, which IMO was garbage
that I never installed (but then I dumped the absolute crap fax viewer M$ provides
immediately.) You might consider using a real graphics editing package. Look for
Irfanview, the price is right.

You should recognize that the software "extras" that M$ provides "free" with their
OS are worth every penny of what we pay for them. There are much better products
available.

The Kodak viewer does come with 98 and the Wang viewer with NT 4. IrfanView is pretty good but it doesn't quite work either. I'm not a giant fan of the things that came with the old OS's but they just worked for the application I have.

Guess my memory failed me, wasn't be the first time.
Well in that case you're probably going to have to look for another solution.

You might try to just copy the executable or the Kodak folder over to the XP drive
and try it that way. Sometimes (a small percentage though) that will work.

I have Win95 File manager that I use, that required DOS to install it. Obviously
that won't work in XP. So just for the heck of it, I copied the entire folder over
to my Program Files folder, and I've got about 95% functionality.

Anyone figure this out? All of the links are for Wiindows 95 and won't install on XP... we have some in-house dependancies that require this viewer and need to get this to work on XP...

Well, UnFORTUNATELY Kodak had been declared war with M$ ! That's why M$ don't include Imaging in XP. And very UnFORTUNATELY again, Imaging for Win9x and NT won't work at XP machine ! Yes, you can drag and execute Imaging, but all OCX's are not work ! Especially if you used it for your own Developed Applications as I Experienced it right now !

You might be able to copy the from Windows 98. C:\Windows\Kodakimg.exe is a great editor, if you just want to preview, then go Right-Click on a *.jpg or a *.gif file and set it to C:\Windows\Kodakprv.exe. Once this opens up, you will have the opportunity to Edit using the bigger family member of the C:\Windows\Kodakimg.exe, (but don't set it as the default as it takes just a smidgen of time more to load for each photo). This might need some more files. I'm just guessing, but it might be a start.

I have created a ZIP file which easily installs Kodak Imaging onto Windows XP (1.42 MB) which can be requested to be downloaded. Just e-mail me. This seems to work well on my computer atleast; I cannot promise it'll work well on others. The only thing I do ask is if it does work for your computer, please spread this file around so other people can have the same help which we have been seeking... I may also be putting it on my file sharing services. The file name is "KodakImg_WinXP_Inst.zip". Spread the word...

www.alliancegroup.co.uk supply Imaging for Windows v2.8 which is suitable for Windows
XP
It is the latest version of the Imaging for Windows included with Windows 95 thru

Imaging for Windows is a product of eiStream Inc. Their Legal Department states: "XP users are not licensed to use Imaging for Windows. The product is not a part of the XP operating system as Microsoft is no longer licensed to distribute it. XP users who wish to have the Imaging for Windows functionality may purchase the licences." "Further, it is in fact a copyright violation to take Imaging for Windows from a prior O/S and 'drop' it into XP; this activity is also a violation of both eiStream's and Microsoft's licenses to end users." Imaging for Windows is available from www.alliancegroup.co.uk/imaging-for-windows.html www.alliancegroup.co.uk

If you have a copy of windows 98 (Second Edition is what I tested this with, but I think any version would work), you can copy the following files to your c:\windows\system32 folder, and then register the OCX files using the following command for each OCX regsrv32 "c:windows\system32\xxxxxx.OCX" changing the xxxxxx to the appropriate OCX Here are the files: 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 106,496 imgadmin.ocx 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 69,632 imgcmn.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 331,776 imgedit.ocx 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 121,856 imgscan.ocx 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 115,712 imgthumb.ocx 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 528,384 kodakimg.exe 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 114,688 kodakprv.exe 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 36,864 oiadm400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 352,256 oidis400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 118,784 oifil400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 151,552 oigfs400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 32,768 oiprt400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 40,960 oislb400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 36,864 oissq400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 45,056 oitwa400.dll 23/04/1999 10:22 PM 65,536 oiui400.dll I can't guarantee results, but it should work. I don't know if there are any issues with running these on XP, you'll have to test it yourself. *ALSO BIG REMINDER*, this is illegal to do. These files aren't provided with XP, so you are not legally allowed to port them from Windows 98 to XP. I'm just providing this information because Microsoft is retarded and I can't believe they would just remove a major piece of software that many programs rely on. Take care!

Imaging for Windows Please note it is not legal to use older versions of Imaging in Windows XP. Global360 (the owners) are getting quite aggressive. Techrepublic and others have been forced to remove the instructions for installing Imaging on XP. You now need to buy the XP version of Imaging for Windows which is compatible with the older versions and adds OCR. Try http://www.alliancegroup.co.uk

Does anyone know of a similar software that will allow me to scan pages into a single document to attach them to the fax software Microsoft included with XP? It seems pretty worthless since you can't really attach documents very well. I used to use Kodak Imaging to scan multiple pages into a single document and then added that document as an attachment to RingCentral fax.

Hi all!

Here's how to install Kodak Imaging for Windows in XP (and to reinstall it on Win2k):

1. Download "extract.exe" from Microsoft (it's included in the resource kits)
2. Use your installation-CD for Win2000Pro.
3. Open cmd-prompt
4. Run the command "extract D:\I386\IMAGEVUE.IN_" c:\temp\imagevue.inf
5. Right-click imagevue.inf, choose Install
6. When prompted "Files Needed", browse to D:\I386
7. DONE!

This worked great. Thanks!

I did notice, though, that the help files for both the Imaging program and the Previewer
weren’t available by clicking Help on the top menu bars. They can be copied from
the Win 2000 CD to XP as follows:

Expand D:\I386\imgview.ch_ C:\Windows\Help\imgview.chm

Expand D:\I386\imgtasks.ch_ C:\Windows\Help\imgtasks.chm

(again, assuming that the Win 2000 CD is located in the D: drive)

I would like to let it be known to those who are still looking for the file I have created which installs Kodak Imaging onto Windows XP that it is now available freely for download from the following URL: http://www.nt.net/~lsmylie/KodakImg_WinXP_Inst.zip I do not know how long I will leave the file available for download, so if it should ever be unavailable for download, that will be it. All future requests from this day sent to my e-mail address for the file in question will be ignored.

If the offer of a Zip File was from a messager whose eMail is no longer on file at Annoyances, you are out of luck. If it is on file, that's where your request belonged. This thread is far too old, far too large, and this forum is not designed for direct eMail, without using the back channels.

Assuming you tried to click on the link that would've taken you to the Zip file owner's address, and you hit a dead end, and you cannot perform the normal Extraction Process, you should've written a new message of your own instead of tagging on a lonely, lost caboose to this ancient problem.

Very few readers here try to find new trailers added to old threads this large, and I don't have that Kodak program myself, so I'm just making a courtesy response.

Thanks for your downloadable Imaging file.

The Imaging window comes up with -

although the imgadmin.ocx and imgcmn.dll are available in the same folder "C:\KodakImg_WinXP_Inst"

What am I missing (besides my mind), Regards Cardotis

Intersting how a day after installation the XP's taskbar grinds to a halt (CPU usage - 100%) while the computer is on the network - I have a feeling the installer dishes out a little more than just some win98 libraries. -thankgod for system restore.

I have searched further, and came across this page http://www.venkysrinivasan.com/images/tech-resources/kodakxp.htm if you follow the instructions there you should get a working Kodak Imaging on XP (at least I got on my XP pro SP2) :)

Why not stop living yesterday's software? That Kodak-Wang software is obsolete -- Download a free version of Adobe Acrobat -- Assign Adobe Acrobat as your default TIFF file viewer and multi-page TIFF file viewer -- It works just fine, has a very good print manager, and you probably already have it on your machine!

not only is your first post here rather unpolite, but also wrong. I have tested on ~10 different multipage tif files and Acrobat was unable to open a single one of them. most multipage tifs will open with Irfanview (or any other decent image viewer) but for example a multipage colour (jpeg compressed, as created by many of today's office copying machines) I have not been able to open with anything else then the Kodak Imaging software... so to open today's documents I apparently need yesterday's software.

It was 4 years ago that Ivan posted his answer and I haven't seen any posts from him for an age. You might be better off mailing him directly . . . open his post, then click on the link to his name at the top [Posted by Ivan] and follow the prompts.

just an addition for those having M$-Office on their comuter: the "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" program will display all tif formats I fed it with, also the multipage colour ones.

Have you gotten a copy of this (kodak imaging for 2000) yet; and, if so, can I have a copy too?
