I don't recall how I did it, but I know I didn't edit the registry, and I was able
to get rid of the QT junk, not sure if I have Real Player loaded or not (I'm not
at my home system right now). So examine the various configuration options and look
at the files involved.
I really despise these companies that are so self obsessed that they want to occupy
memory on your computer 100% of the time.

I thought if I might, maybe jump in on this thread for a similar problem. AOL
has convinced themselves that they own this box of parts . Anytime it feels like
it , it starts, it's window covering up whatever I'm doing and dials up. I've turned
off all of it's Autostart options which is supposed to take care of this. Somtimes
10-12 times an hour. Also, Intellectual interactive player, which by the way downloaded
itself somewhere along the line and Realplayer . Anyone know any settings that really
do work? Thanks Mucho, Joe Andre

You might try settings>control panel>add or remove programs>set program access and
defaults. If you have AOL set as your default browser, anytime you click on a link,
it will start and try to connect...annoying, isn't it?

re: Question about 'How do I stop a program from running whenever I start Windows?': realsched.exe

To get realsched.exe off your startups for good...
Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)
Type regedit
then click OK. (The Registry Editor opens.)
Navigate to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
In the right pane, delete any values that refer to realsched.exe, and any other app
that you don't want running at startup. This reg folder is for startup items only,
you will still be able to load and run these programs effectively.
Hope this helps.

Shane's advice will get rid of the key, but realsched is one of those annoying programs
that just keep coming back. It'll just remake the key. Help is at hand! Mike Lin
has written two tiny but excellent programs for just this kind of thing: StartupCPL
and Startup Monitor. The first allows you to look at a list of everything that starts
when windows starts and delete what you want. The second informs you when a program
is trying to register something to start on windows startup, and will give you an
'allow or deny' option. Taken together, they will cure practically all your startup
problems.
His homepage, with free small downloads, is www.mlin.net
Hope this helps, too...

A simple solution to getting rid of Realsched.exe for good (or at least until you
update / reinstall it).
Follow Shane's sound advice on removing the registry keys. Before using RealOne Player
again, though, locate Realsched.exe and rename it to Realsched.old
On this machine it was found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\
Once this has been done it will no longer run and will no longer be reinstated to
the registry keys you removed.
RealOne Player will operate as normal without RealSched and also without those annoying
popup messages and without stealing resources when you're not running it.

An alternative solution is to delete Real One Player. Go to control panel, add/delete
programs, highlight Real Player, delete. I'm hoping i dont need real one player for
a while. If i do i will consider going back and following the advice above, but for
now my computer is up and running again, whereas, before realsched.exe was locking
up my computer by using 100% of the CPU all the time - you could see it in task manager.
Symtoms were extremely slow running and inability to open some files or application.
I got strange error messages like i was out of memory or quotas. My solution was
crude but simple and effective. realsched.exe was a major annoyance!
