Register XP if your install disk is not counterfeit. Otherwise Obtain a 98 boot disk
and run fdisk, format and install 98. Then you can start over.

That's possible. I notice that many of us (including myself) are slowly giving up
on trying to convince folks to give XP a chance. Maybe the ME forum is more fun ;o)

Could be that these people are working in an environment where their "powers that
be" are cracking down on pirated software installations on Company computers.

This may or may not help you but if you have another OS you wish to use, Win98 (easy
to obtain online), go here http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and download the
Windows 98 OEM. Click "Run" after install. Have a formatted Floppy ready. Afterward
simply plop in NEW DISK. After a bunch of usless text and it loads keep hitting enter
until you reach the "A:" prompt. TYPE "C:" thereafter you should be switched to where
the "A:" is switched to "C:" simply type fdisk. You will be ran through a myriad
of choices say "YES" if it is okay. Type "3" press DELETE ALL PARTITIONED
DRIVES. Then CREATE A NEW DRIVE. Your HD is now empty.
WARNING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKED ANY IMPORTANT FILES!

what if the reason I'm trying to erase XP Pro (borrowed version) in my computer is
that I need to re-install windows because after my last automatic update from microsoft
both of my optical drives stopped working. After thoroughly testing these drives
in another computer I found out that there is nothing wrong with them. So even if
I have copy of windows 98 I am screwed as both of my optical drives are not working.
Any suggestions? I'm screwed aren't I.
