Question about 'Stop Pop-Up Spam Messages'

I have a question about Stop Pop-Up Spam Messages:

This may be related, but recently I've been getting a ton of flooding on my MSN messenger. I never really use it and keep logging out, but it logs itself back in and I keep getting these annoying messages. They are usually in a group/room format that have a bunch of people (probably one person) join at once and spam. First, how did this happen, second-how do I totally turn off MSN messenger (I've tried the obvious--all windows closed off/no programs running-->click exit...it doesnt' work!), third, if I have msn messenger running how can I avoid these. thanks in advance for any help.

There article you referred to relates to Messenger Services. XP also has Windows Messenger and a down-loadable cousin MSN Messenger is also available. Are you confused. Messenger Service can turned off, and MSN Messenger can be uninstalled in add & remove programs, and Windows Messenger can be uninstalled, or Hidden. A google search will have info on how to do it.

In the run box type services.msc and when it opens double click Messenger and disable it.

If this is the little green man in the system tray
Go to “options>preferences” uncheck the “allow this program to run in the background” box
And try going to “options>privacy tab” and moving “all other users” to the block list
That is the way it is done in Windows messenger MSN messenger is probably done the same way
If it is like a windows dialogue box see the other posts
