Question about 'Clear Unwanted Entries from Add/Remove Programs'

I have a question about Clear Unwanted Entries from Add/Remove Programs:

In previously trying to delete unwanted entries in my add/remove program list, I used the Registry Optimizer in a program called Windows System Optimizer, it showed several registry keys to delete that were no longer needed that I deleted. Now those programs are still in the add/remove programs list, but there is neither a 'change/remove' button with them now nor are there keys in the registry editor for them. Your tip with using the Regisrty Editor, which unfortunately I saw after toying around with the above Optimizer, allowed me to remove other unwanted items from this list, but not two for which I cannot remove nor do I have a key in the registry to delete (since it was already deleted without removing the listing from add/remove programs). If anyone knows how to get rid of these, do please pass on word. Thanks!

Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE). Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall. Click on the [+] next to Uninstall and a branch will expand under it, revealing all of the applications currently listed under Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs. Simply highlight any unwanted entries (with a single left-click) and hit Delete. One note about looking for your application in the Registry. It may not have the same name you see in the Add/Remove Programs dialog. If you're unsure about which entry to delete, you can usually click on a likely suspect in the list in the left pane to see a more thorough description in the right pane,

So the sum total is that no-one knows where control panel stores the list of add/remove programs. I also have an entry on that list which I have zapped with regedit and several times hit uninstall, inserted the CD it runs but like the fairground bunny it pops straight back up again. TWEAKUI doesn't offer any further actions that I can see but I would welcome being pointed in the rigth direction. Problem is that I acnnot install a new version of the software because the installer thinks there is/isn't another version already there........ Any help most gratefully received

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall is the right place to look for it. Search for the program you are removing as value rather than key, and you might find it in one of those registry entries enclosed in curly barckets.

Thanks for that - for some reason my earlier search of the registry did not find those entries. I have now zapped them and re-installed the software.

I have an entry in add/remove which appears to originate in HKCR\installer\products\[a guid]\. If I remove this key it goes or if I edit the ProductName value in this key it is picked up. It does not have a change/remove button. There are other similar keys for items which do have a change/remove button. I cannot see uninstall keys for either nor can I see a difference to explain the presence or absence of the button. I tried creating an uninstall key using the same GUID and taking the uninstall string from HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\installer\userdata\s-1-5-18\products\[tge same guid]\installproperties\ This results in an additional add/remove entry which has the change/remove button. The uninstall works (although it leaves the new add/remove entry orphaned so I am removing the key with another program

Hello, I think maybe you can take a try of Magic Utilities from http://www.magictweak.com

One more suggestion. It worked for me. I cound not find my product name under Uninstall directory but it was there under installer directory. Try to find the product name inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Installer Remove all the keys that you find with the product name and then you can check in Add/Remove applet that the bugging entry is gone.
