To stop Messenger and all related go the Steve Gibson security free website and download
"Shoot The Messenger". It is a no brainer...www.grc.com under Free Stuff.
I am not connected with the website, but I got a virus every day for two weeks via
messenger. Although the messenger can be turned off using Administrative Tools for
the less enlightened this utility is dirt simple, and is FREE!

FYI The messenger service can't transmit viruses, it only transmits short text messages
You’ve got another problem
and if you get a virus every day for two weeks you obviously don’t have don’t have
an up-to-date antivirus program
they are not optional anymore if your connected to the net your exposed to viruses
and Trojan horses

I have not got infected by a virus in over 2 1/2 years.
CoincidentallyI stopped using Outlook Express 2 1/2
years ago.
Many Free Web based email now scan for viri before
you open the email
Still good idea to not open attachments unless you
know that it is harmless.
