Question about 'How do I remove unwanted programs from the ''Open With'' list?'

I dont have much trouble with the Open With, however I accidentally clicked on the
wrong software and it associates with those files (those darn touchpad mouse). When
I click with right button, I then go down to "open with" and there's three softies
under "Recommend" section with two softies being incorrect. How do I delete those
incorrect softwares? I'm using winXP.

Go to Start Menu > Run > type:regedit
On the left side, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
Right click this key (the folder is called a key) and choose Export to create a backup
file in case you make a mistake.
Now expand this key and find and expand the subkey for the file extension you're
having a problem with. There are two subkeys, OpenWithList and OpenWithProgids.
Select OpenWithList.
(For example, if your problem is with .bmp files then select...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.bmp\OpenWithList
On the right side, you should see the incorrect programs. Delete those items.
You may need to do the same for the OpenWithProgids subkey. If you are not sure
what program the progid represents, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\progidname, where progidname
is the progid you are trying to identify. Or you can just delete it and then restore
using the .reg file if it doesn't go right.
Feel free to e-mail me with further questions.
