Question about 'How do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes'

I have worked on my friend's computer for about 2 hours now and to no avail. Windows loads up, but it only displays the wallpaper, with no right-clicking available, no start menu...nothing. I ctrl+alt+deled and have worked with task manager and msconfig quite a bit. I tried the aforementioned tip to run "explorer", but nothing seemed to happen when I ran it. No "explorer" in the Processes window. I figure that is the problem. Not sure how else to load it up.

Tip: Run a free scan for common Windows errors ad

It ran, finished, then vanished. Didn't show any results or anything.

I discovered the solution. Go to regedit. Then delete these keys : 1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplorer.exe and 2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe 3. Reboot. Enjoy!

Suppose you have this problem and on top of this it says 'Task Manager has been disabled by the Administrator.'

well i like to keep things simple. i've been trying to get this damn trojan off my computer for 3 days so tonight i finally decided to do some browsing. i searched on google to find out what the problem was and what i had to do. this was the most helpful site i got what i needed up top

BUT THEY KEYS ARE NOT THERE?

so what did i do. kept things real

-opened the start menu

-opened the "search" utility

-searched for "iexplore.exe"

now 4 or 5 different items came up

i simply. deleted all of them jus boom out with it. windows said i needed a cd to save it or something to which i totally disregarded its advice. and continued it warned me that some files might not work properly and i made the decision that the risk is better than having some hacker on my comp.

i got a bunch of clear readings on my performance in the task manager.. no iexplorer.exe anymore.. and no unusual cpu usage. i think its saved for now. going to run virus scans for the last time to make sure everything is okay

thats all ya gotta do. search for it. and jus delete it.

good luck
