Sometimes the boot.ini file picks up old info and shows extra options. You can edit it by using the the System icon in the Control Panel. Advanced Tab and in the Startup and Recovery section (where you can choose default OS to boot) there is an edit button which allows you to edit the boot.ini. In particular look at was is below the line with "[operating systems]". Each line thereafter repreents one potential boot choice. Each can be a separate operating system, or they can be variations of the same operating system. To clarify the last statement: I have XP, XP safe mode, and the XP recovery console as individual boot choices. However, it would be more common to have something like XP, and 98.
