What brand and model of laptop do you have. I have seen this with some Toshiba laptops.
It sometimes means that your processor fan is not properly working. If so you need
to take it in to have it serviced.

IBM Thinkpad P111, 697 mhz, the fan is small (3-4cm) and at the bottom of the laptop,
and there are no stands, so the fan is basically useless unless you put it over the
edge of a table

You might try their support trouble shooting agent on their website. www.ibm.com
