Windows NT is not built on top of DOS. There is a DOS emulation provided, so the
real question is why do you want to boot into DOS? You can use a Win98 startup disk
if your hard drives are formatted as FAT32.

Straight forward answer:
You can boot into dos by using a floppy disk containing dos or a bootup disk from
an older OS, like ME...
Bootdisks can be found from http://www.bootdisk.com, i think they may have DOS available
for DL as well..
My problem? This laptop doesn't have a disk drive.. My search continues...

Despite what you may see from some message boards, yes, it is possible to boot into
DOS even though you have WINXP installed, and it hasn't anything to do with NTFS
or FAT-32, and all you need is a blank floppy disk.
Put the disk in the drive. Then, right click on the icon for the 3 1/2 Floppy A:
drive, and select FORMAT. It opens a box from which you will select the option "Create
an MS-DOS startup disk". Click OK, and it creates the boot disk for you.
The next time you reboot, make sure you have the floppy in the drive, and/or go into
your BIOS and select the boot order so that it will boot from that floppy.
When you are done with everything you want to do in DOS, just hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and
it will restart into XP. (if you changed the boot order in the BIOS make sure to
change it back to the first boot being from the HD)
Good luck!
