HP PrecisionScan LT Setup Startup Message

Has anybody else experienced this error message at Windows XP startup and been successful in getting rid of it? "HP PrecisionScan LY Startup. This program updates your HP scanning software. You may see a message about 'Digital Signature Not Found'. You must click 'Yes' for the update to install correctly." I do not own an HP scanner and have not knowingly installed a driver for it.

ARE you still having problems? If so, you must end the process of the program before you try to delete it. Do this by Control-alt-delete , then select process and end process for the hpupdate progaram. I tried all of the steps given to you without much luck until I ran on to this extra step. hope this helps.

These are EXCELLENT directions, but first just add in the suggestion made by the other person to stop the process: "you must end the process of the program before you try to delete it. Do this by Control-alt-delete , then select process and end process for the hpupdate program. " You then can delete everything you need to and you shouldn't see the start up message again. Thanks very much for the detailed directions!

I've followed all of the steps outlined including ending the process before deleting and I'm still left with the same undeletable file, hpsjmcro.dll, within hpsj*. Any more ideas would be most welcome. Thank you.

Uninstall HP scanjet software gives a message: Kan registratiewaarde 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Update 3300C' niet verwijderen. So delete manual in the registry: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Update 3300C' . The message will disappear.

I installed Xp on my computer and I had the same problem. My scanner would not install on XP with my old software. To be able to reinstall my HP Scanner " HP 4200c " I had to order HP precision Scan LT software/Driver for the ScanJet 4200c Series, Version 2.0.3 that will install with XP. I installed the full version, which had HP System Diagnostic on it. It helped me to get rid of this annoying problem. Check out HP website, and you can get this Software off of the Internet. It helped me and I hope that this will help some one else.

Clicking on the above link only takes you to HP's main website, so here is what the
website tells you to do:

Symptom

A "Digital signature not found" message opens every time the computer is started
in Windows XP. This message opens as the Windows Desktop loads.
Solutionback to top of page

Remove the entries for hpupdate.exe and update from the startup menu and then delete
the hpupdate.exe file.

These entries may appear in the following format:

    * C:\sj655\hpupdate.exe

    * C:\Program files\scanjet\Precision Scan LT\update.exe

Step 1: Remove the entries from the Start Menu

         1. Click Start, then Run. The Run window will open.
         2. In the Open box, type msconfig and click OK. The
System Configuration Utility will open.
         3. Click the Startup tab and remove the check marks next to the hpupdate.exe
or update.exe entries, if present.
         4. Click OK and then close the System Configuration Utility window.

Step 2: Delete the file hpupdate.exe

         1. Right-click Start and then click Explore. Windows Explorer will open.
         2. Click Tools, then Folder Options. The Folders options window will open.
         3. Click the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders, and then click
OK.
         4. Click Start , Search, then Files or folders. The Find files and folders
window will open.
         5. In the Named box, type hpupdate.exe. In the Look in box, use the arrow
to open the drop-down menu and then select [C:]. Make sure there is a check mark
in the Include subfolders checkbox.
         6. Click Search or Find now. A list of the files found will display.
         7. Highlight all of the entries found for the file hpupdate.exe. Click
Edit, and then Delete. Click OK to delete the file(s).
         8. Restart the computer system. The message window should not open again.

I had also experienced the annoyance of the Startup message "HP PrecisionScan LT Setup". After a series of failed attempts to get rid of it, I finally tried the following scheme: I opened the System Configuration Utility, I chose Startup and I unchecked these two items: 1) hpupdate (Command: C:\sj650\hpupdate.exe 3300C+) and 2) NEWDOT~2 (Command: rundll.32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2DLL,NewDotNetStartup -s). I clicked Apply and I restarted my computer. Pay attention! At this first restart and only for once, I received a "warning-prompting" message to undo my changes by going back to the System Configuration Utility and clicking Standard configuration. Ignore it and get rid of it clicking 'Don't show'. It works 100%!!!! Try it and you'll see!!!

You are looking in the wrong place - this issue is nothing to do with XP, and everything to do with HP's invasive software. Have a look in the HP support forums, and you will find stuff like this

I have this software its for pre-XP windows. Firstly you NEED to go into services and disable the WIA service to use this software at all, it conflicts with windows image aquisition service. then right click on the hpprsclt.exe file and change run in compatibility mode to w98. Then unplug your usb cable and reinsert, start software and it works ok. certainly with my scanjet 3300c

Symptom A "Digital signature not found" message opens every time the computer is started in Windows XP. This message opens as the Windows Desktop loads. Solution Remove the entries for hpupdate.exe and update from the startup menu and then delete the hpupdate.exe file. These entries may appear in the following format: * C:\sj655\hpupdate.exe * C:\Program files\scanjet\Precision Scan LT\update.exe Step 1: Remove the entries from the Start Menu 1. Click Start, then Run. The Run window will open. 2. In the Open box, type msconfig and click OK. The System Configuration Utility window will open. 3. Click the Startup tab and remove the check marks next to all the HP files. 4. Click Apply, then OK, close the System Configuration Utility window, then click Close without restart. Step 2: Delete the file hpupdate.exe 1. Right-click Start and then click Explore. Windows Explorer will open. 2. Click Tools, then Folder Options. The Folders Options window will open. 3. Click the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. 4. Click Start, Search, then All Files or folders. The Find files and folders window will open. 5. In the Name box, type hpupdate.exe. In the Look in box, use the arrow to open the drop-down menu and then select [C:]. Make sure there is a check mark in the Include subfolders checkbox. 6. Click Search or Find now. A list of the files found will display. 7. Highlight all of the entries found for the file hpupdate.exe. Click Edit, and then Delete. Click OK to delete the file(s). 8. Restart the computer system. The message window should not open again.
