Question about 'How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?'

I have a question about How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?:

I just wanted to say that I have been wanting to change the text colour of my desktop icons for a long while now. I have the background of the text transparent. No problem there. Just would like to be able to change the text colour, to something other than black or white. I can't change it in the Display Properties. Red text for instance...would look great on a mostly black background. Is there anyway to do this in XP without d/l a program? Thank you.

Thank you sTeve, for responding to my question. I was afraid of that. I d/l different stuff. But, I try to be careful of what I d/l. I don't want to d/l something that might mess up my system. But, I guess about anything we d/l is taking a chance. I definitely didn't want to go into the registry, either. I guess that I will either have to forget about it or d/l a program. Thanks, again. Victoria

I don't think a reg hack will even do it, or it would be well known. I know a good piece of safe software to do it called microangelo, but it isn't free, I downloaded the trial version once, but decided the cost was a bit high just to change a few things on the desktop. It did work well, and in the month I used it nothing bad happened to the PC. You are wise to be careful, because many users mess up the PC with countless freeware programs.

Yes, I have read about microangelo. But, at the moment, my finances are kinda tight. So, I guess that I will just let it go for now. Thank you. I know people that d/l all kinds of stuff & wonder why they have problems. Basically, that's pretty much all I wanted to change right now anyway. So, it's not really worth the hassle or the money. Thanks again, sTeve. Victoria

Just do this ; To change the color you have to diable one of the 'Themes Services' 1. Right click on My Computer, select Properties 2. Select the Advanced tab 3. Then the Performance button 4. Uncheck the 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' box 5. Then click Apply, OK, OK Now @ the desktop 6. Right click anywhere on the screen and select properties 7. Choose the Desktop tab 8. In the lower right hand corner choose the color that you would like 9. Apply, the OK and your are done! Hope this helps

A program is not needed...

Open the System applet in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and
click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the "Use drop
shadows for icon labels on the desktop option", and click Ok.

Four things are required for transparent icon backgrounds:

1) System Properties>Advanced>Performance Settings>VisualEffects - check
"use drop shadows for icon labels".

2) Right-click on Desktop ->Arrange Icons by>Lock Web items must be
cleared.

3) If you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won't work.
To check for web content: Display Properties>Desktop>Customize
Desktop>Web - make sure all checkboxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.
