Sound card problem

I am having problems with my sound. The sound is all distorbed when i want to do something else, such as opening a program. I don't know if there is a IRQ problem which i don't think so. I tried looking in the device manager, but everything seems ok. First i had the same problem with a soundcard inboard in my motherboard (K7S5A Pro). but i said maybe it doesn't work, so i bought a new sound card and i still have the same problem. I have Windows Xp, 256MB ram, 1.2Ghz Amd Atlon. The only thing i see is that irq 10 is shared by the sound card and Usb 2.0 host controller. I looked at their properties but there is no conflict.
