Window XP is superior to Win ME, as the article tells you. On the other hand, you do need the resources to handle your programs. 256Mb RAM is about minimum. Decent pagefile size must be proper size and the HD will need to hold everything you want. Beyond that, what exactly was your question?

Even so I have 384MB and running Windows XP (all lastest upgrades for Jan 2004) and I just go this message. I had only one application open and it suggest I close some windows to solve the problem. Obviously there is some other problem here.

What program did this happen with? How much free hard drive space do you have? Has this ever happened before with the same or another program? Along with virus, this problem can be caused to a program demanding a lot of RAM, too many font styles, too many useless background apps and other things. Read here for a lot of help on cleaning out garbage. Windows XP Home and Professional Service Configurations by Black Viper

I'm one of those users who abides by the maxim, "Never screw around with a working computer". So I'm still using Windows 98 SE. But, 98 does a terrible job of managing system resources, and since I always have four programs running, I have to reboot daily to get my resources back to 88%, which is where I start (with Zone Alarm running). Could anyone tell me how well XP Home Edition handles system resources and memory? I assume it's better than 98, but how much? Thanks
