How would i go about on installing a old vwersion of windows like 98.. i bought my computer wit xp installed in it and i cant install windows98 bcause it says win98 cant install in this version of windows..i really want windows 98 because winxp crashes on my new comp i tried going to get a refund but they said no.. so could i install an older version of windows? thanks

I would not go back to win 98 after winXP what spec is you pc and have you got all updates installed inc service pack 1 etc.

a guy sitting beside me tells me 98 cannot be installed to a partition with xp on 
it! I offered fdisk as a solution but still he says no! It wont work, the format 
is too quick and it doesnt remove all traces of xp.

The only way of doing it he says is to 'ghost' the disk!! Read up on it, its easy 
but it involves 2 disks.

I would have try set the bios to boot from the cd and run the installation from there 
but he doesnt thjnk it will work. 

I'd try it.

Hmm I am thinking to reformat the drive using the xp disk. Do not install xp, just format it. After thats done and the comp restarts, pop in the win98 setup disk.

Why don't you post who you bought the computer from, so others will know not to buy 
from them.

If the computer crashes with Win XP, it will most likely crash with W98, unless this 
is an older used computer.

like thay say if it crashes with Win XP.it will whit 98 what kind of puter is it what speed how much ram ???????????????????????????????????????and than maybe we can help you .......................

you have to formatt your hard drive too fat32 for win 98 to install make a start up disk from win 98 and format it. easy i do it all the time

if it crashes on xp it will not neccasarily crash on 98 my other comp dont its to slow for xp and high speed internet but win 98 and hs is fine

Winxp is a crasher.Worst operating system on the planet as they forgot to make it 
compatable.This was deliberate to force you to change.
If you prefer 98, you can "Get a nerd" to install it fior you.There is nothing wrong 
with win98,just the idiots on this page giving you false advise.
Kids on this board I think.They don't remember win98
Win98 was ok before winxp was made.
