What's the keyboard shortcuts for shutting down/turning off windows, stanby and hibernate? And how do you disabel them?

if you mean by keyboard short cuts as your keyboard having a button on the side called standby or shutdown, i dont there is a way to turn it off.you could try going to keyboard in the control panel and see if there is a tab for your keyboard extra features. my old hp had that tab and it gave me the option to turn off those extra buttons ont he keyboard.

You might look at 
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptstopper.asp
Not keyboard shortcuts, but it might do what you want from a desktop icon. Haven't 
tried it myself, though.

Press the Windows key, then press alt-f4.

A desktop shortcut to standby is exactly what I need. Thanks, Jean :)

In case you never found the shortcut keys, they are - Ctrl + Esc then press the u key.

If laptops have this then I'm sure desktop PCs must be capable of the same thing, no advice on how to disable though. Hope that's not annoyingly useless- I'm used to Macs and just beginning to use a PC!
