''Print'' and ''Send To'' options on right-clicking a file

Another undeletable/unmoveable file issue: When I right-click on a file it only brings up a "Print" and "Send To" option. Since there are no standard "right-click" options I can't move or delete this file. Drag-and-Drop did not work. I tried accessing the file through DOS, but it still did not work. How can I delete this file or move it somewhere else?

Just highlight the file you want to delete and press "Delete" on your keyboard.

Doesn't work ... try again!

If that doesn't work, wipe and re-install Windows. "delete" should always work.

To extreme - this phenomenon is common in XP.

Presummably this is some sort of multimedia file? Try rebooting to safe mode and deleting from there, if that doesn't work there is still another trick to try.

Check you file permissions first. Then look for less extreme options.

Sorry. I was being sarcastic here. I guess I should have explained that better.

There have been many instances of this bug reported in this forum where avi, mpeg, and jpg files can not be deleted. Seems that explorer is the application that is "busy" that prevents being able delete them. And after 50 XP updates, M$ still has not provided a fix.

The file appears to be some type of web database application file.

Sounds like a different problem than the usual. What's the file extension? Can you identify an app running in Task Manager that might be related? Have you run Spybit?

Yup, I've run the spy and virus detectors on it ... seems a benign file. I checked for handles and nothing there. It's just a stubborn file.

You didn't state the extension, or error message.
Here's one of the last ditch alternatives:
open a command Window
open task manager and kill explorer
go back to the command winow and delete the file with a DOS command
then go back to task manager and restart explorer

I've never tried that, but have seen it posted a few times as a solution. But I've
never had the non-deletable file problem.
