I have a question about Things that slow down system bootup:

I have a huge problem....I upgraded my system from: Athlon XP 2200/ FSB266 ESC Elitegroup K7S5A Motherboard 1 GIG SDRam/ PC-133 FSB Quadro 2 PRO/ 64 MB RAM ATA 20 + 40 GIG HD 250W power supply to: Athlon XP 2200/ FSB266 ESC Elitegroup K7S5A Motherboard 1gig DDR Ram/ PC-266 FSB MSI Geforce FX 5600/ 256 MB RAM ATA 20 + 40 GIG HD 500W power supply both on Win XP and not only is the boot slower ...but MAYA renders slower ...and overall performance is slower...except games of course...allthough my 3dmark is about 7800+=...which should be a lot higher from what I've read...also 512 of ram performs the same or better than 1 gig...I realy don't get it....also I've defraged the drives and I also ran windows washer and ad-ware 6 plus norton antivirus.... HEEEELP!!!please! The boot used to take about 30 sec. and noe it takes about a 1and1/2 min.....I have installed 4 games though...is that it?...but it syill shouldn't affect the windows performance only boot...thanks in advance!

DId you install the Video drivers from the disk you got with your card, or did you let windows load the default drivers? This may or may not be the issue.

One more thing, make sure everything is set to the correct speeds in the BIOS..

I downloaded the 44.03 drivers from Nvidia....and the speed is set 133/133 in the BIOS ...they have 2 latency, 3 precharge, and 6 active time with a speed on the RAM of fast(I guest that would be 166 on a stnadard BIOS)....

Does this board support both types of RAM? You may have been better off installing a dedicated DDR mobo and reformatting / reinstalling XP. What about the AGP aperture? have you adjusted it. I would suggest setting it at its max (128mb?). I recently swapped motherboard, RAM and CPU from 1.4 tbird to 2600XP t'bred. Before reformatting it ran like a brick...now, with GF 4400Ti I get over 11000 on 3d Mark. Definately try a format and reinstall XP. Good luck.

I bought a WD 80 GIG HD/ 8 MB cache...and reinstalled windows in it....the system is super fast....the 3d mark 2001 performance test when up from 7800 to 8400+- so there was an increase ...but with the system I'm running I should break the 10000-11000 barrier with ease....I don't get it....and I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed....the two questions that I have are:...I'm running a geforce fx 5600 with a 4X AGP MOBO instead of 8X....does that affect it too much?... i've been told it just increases texture performance...and how do I set the AGP aperture?....in te BIOS I don't see that setting ..neither in the control panel...maybe I'm not looking correctly...thanks in advance

I have a similar problem to you, but I have a static HW config. I think it must be to do with the nVidia Detonator drivers, as shown below. I have an Athlon XP 1800, 512 Mb PC2100 DDR, IBM Deskstar, Chaintech GF3 Ti200 128Mb DDR. The following timings are for the display of the Win2000 splash screen, which takes longer to complete as I load more recent Detonator drivers. Default win 2K VGA drv, the windows splash screen is displayed for ~ 30 secs. Detonator v 29.42 splash display = ~ 50 secs Detonator v 53403splash display = ~ 300 secs I have tried a few versions in between, and each new ver of the Detonators increases Win2K load time. I tried removing all PCI cards, disabling mobo USB and removing all non essential Win2K Services. the only consistentthing is the poor load times. I am now thinking of moving to ATI. did you get anywhere with this?

Change your operating system to WinXP Pro SP2 and try reverting the drivers to the
ones that came with the card. Newer driver may be optimized for newr cards only (thus
leaving problems with older cards) If you think that it has to do with the HW config
then try the card in someone elses computer and run the test again... Btw, you didn't
mention which version of 3DMark you were using. Anyhow, from what I've heard: The
difference between 4X and 8X AGP is not that apparent on mainstream cards but I need
yet to confirm it.

If your problems are solved at this point, then congratulations and good luck in
the future.
