Question about 'Resolving Hardware Conflicts'
Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 7:08 pm
Posted by Sam (1 messages posted)

I have a question about Resolving Hardware Conflicts:

I've seen similar issues to this one but I could really use a little assistance if anyone has some advice for me. I am running Windows XP Professional on a brand new system, at boot it will usually restart 2-4 times before actually functioning properly. I have disabled the auto reboot at error option so I could get a listing of the error and this is what it spits out; STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X80533FD4, 0XBA51AB1C, 0X00000000) If anyone knows where I can have this error message "deciphered" to know exactly what is causing this error I would worship you!

The following are causes of the STOP: 0X0000008E error:

"STOP 0x0000008e" Error Message During Windows XP Setup

A "STOP 0x0000008E" Error Message Occurs in Wdmaud.sys

STOP 0x0000008e

A "STOP: 0x0000008E" Error Message Occurs When You Change the Hardware Acceleration Setting

STOP 0x0000008E Error Message on a Blue Screen and Your Computer Does Not Enter Hibernation or Standby After You Remove an IEEE 1394 Storage Device

STOP 0x0000008e Failed To Install Product Catalog

That error usually points to a driver issue or the need for a bios update......
If this is a new machine I would be taking it back.

Have you done anything to your ram lately??? If you have, undo what you've done and
try it again, or try to switch the slot that your current ram is in. STOP 0x0000008e
is definately a ram error.

had the same error and couldn't find a solution nowhere... most help i got was of a "sucky memory" variaty... so i tried to run a memtest - it was ok, no errors whatsoever... thought it had something to do with agp/graphics card/windows-dx 'cos it crashed most often while playing some graphics intensive games... well anyway to make a long story short - i have a ga-7vrxp mobo with 512mb pc2700 ram... now, ga-7vrxp has kt333 chipset and fsb of 133... and since i have an athlon 1.8+ that extra speed of memory is... well... not neccesary... so i underclocked ram to 266MHz via bios... guess what? no more blue screen... imagine that...

there's an option "ram frequency" somewhere in there... i think it's in advanced chipset features, but it depends on mobo/bios version etc... also look for configure ram speed" (or something like that) and set it to manual... this will enable manual setting of ram frequencies and latencies... for specifics use google, but a good pc2700 ram should have a latency of 3... but for stability go for 2... anyway - play with the settings... (but don't hold me responsible if something "undesirable" happens) glhf!

I just bought a new motherboard and it does that all the time now :( it gives the
same error code that you have - but I can't find any fixes - If you or anyone does
find a fix, please respond to us! :) I was getting different errors when I had my
GeForce4 card in, but with the GeForce2 card, it's giving me the same error more
(and more system freezes) - i did realize that my AGP, IDE Controller (Promise Ultra133
TX2 on PCI), and my Happauge WinTV PCI were using the same IRQ (11) so If that helps
too :)

I have this problem too, specifically STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x80521e09, 0xf0533768, 0x00000000). This ONLY happens when I attempt to play certain videos, namely those that use Windows Media Player 9 technologies. Although it claims the RAM is the problem, I do not believe that. And yet, sometimes certain websites cause the crash, java perhaps? In either case, it's likely a problem with GDI as the Microsoft article mentions about hardware acceleration. I am going to try a few things to fix it and you may want to try these too: * Install the latest graphics card drivers * Try different hardware acceleration settings * Reinstall Windows Media Tools 9 * Give up and buy XP so I can get the fix Good luck everyone!

Stop: 0000008E (C0000005,...) from dialup or 11b

My computer has been crashing lately if I dial into the internet or if I connect to my Linksys peer network. I will try the memory fixes mentioned above, but I have a hard time believing it's memory since it only crashes when I'm using communications. I have used the system restore function to get back up & it will be ok for a while. Also, the error messages aren't always the same. Sometimes they are 7E rather than 8E & sometimes ndisuio.sys is listed below the stop message. I am running XP Pro SP2. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey guy's well i no very little about computers however i decided to finaly upgrade my sp from 98 to XP as 98 is becoming obselete. Anyway i bought XP service Pack 2 cheap off ebay and it all loaded fine and was working well cept i needed to update my sound card driver so i got the download of this website for XP. However halfway through setup it said the software didnt have a valid certificate, well being a fool i ignored this and finished the installation and at the end it told me to restart so duly i did. However following this XP now crashes just before opening the login screen with the following blue screen warning "STOP 0x0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X804EC6E9, OXF4B44560, 0X00000000)". I cannot load it in any mode, safe mode hangs at Driver: MUP. This was the first time i restarted my computer with xp so im unsure wether it was me using the wrong driver or it was a faulty xp disk. Anyway help would be useful the sound card was a realtek ac-97. p.s. if i cannot open windows how can i change/update drivers

If you tried changing the RAM with no result, try to reduce the FSB to, for example, 100. This should work. Not really satisfiing, but a workaround. Next step, play arround with differend steppings. sven

If someone can please help me I'd really appreciate it. I recently bought my son some software called Sebalius. It is a program for writing music. We have a Dell that is two years old. (If more info is needed on it, tell me what info is needed and I'll get it, I'm not real computer literate). Shortly after he started using Sebalius we started getting a BSOD. It happened more and more frequently until the computer wouldn't come up at all, and I had to have it slicked and put back to original settings. He tried to put Sebalius back on it, but almost immediately got a BSOD again. I made him remove it from the computer. The warning code follows....if anyone can help us figure out this problem I would be grateful. ***STOP: 0x0000008E 0xC0000005, 0xF7D09F81 (0xF4100A80, 0x00000000) xxx ks sys - Address F7D09F81 base at F7D01000, Datestamp 41107ef8

I am having very similar problems and found this link by googling for "AC97 driver Windows stop message". I think this is your problem but I don't know how to get this horrible, crashing driver completely off my system. I installed Windows XP sp2 on my pc (after a trashing of it - whoops!) and when I installed this driver, halfway through installing I got the STOP message like you mention. Afterwards, many STOP messages occurred for many reasons and so I installed again (2 days later.) Nice and stable, everything works great, then I finally decide to install the useless Vinyl AC97 WDM driver and STOP again. This driver should be renamed Windows-System-STOP-utility. I have now gone into control panel and uninstalled the driver but I got a STOP message when this occurred too so don't know if it was successful which is why I am now browsing Google. Hope this helps. Vinyl AC97 - wot a piece of shit!

I have this same problem but I think its my c-media AC97 audio device. This is because I had problems with BSOD's giving me the STOP win32K.sys with a 00..8E message. But I also have some other bsod messages. I didn't find the cause untill I started to have problems if I wanted to start up Call of Duty, I have a message that says "5 soundfiles are missing or in bad format'. The first time I had this problem I looked in my hardware devices my audio device was marked with a "?" I figured that if I start up CoD directly after a windows startup that my game is not giving me this error message and it works. But if I wait for about 1 or 2 minutes after the windows startup than it not possible to start up my game. Now I don't have this questionmark anymore but the problems are still there. The problem is also that I can't find a GOOD and recent driver for my audio device. I allready looked if my drivers where up to date with driver detective and it shows me that my driver for this device is old or not good. I give a very detailed explaination about my problem and I hope that with this information someone can find the solution for this problem. Good luck.
