Same way you changed on 95...right click it..read.

Then do please elaborate. I did it once but I forgot how exactly that I did it and now after applying one of the other tweaks here my icons have all be reset to the defaults.

Try to use Bee Icons. This program can help you customize all shell icons by several clicks. Go to http://www.beeicons.com to download Bee Icons.
