Top reasons for random, fatal crashes in Windows XP and Windows 2000:

While trying to reload windows xp my computer was in safe mode. now i continually get the message that the computer is going to restart because xp cannot be loaded in safe mode. The problem is I can,t get it out of safe mode even though i use f8.It seems that i can,t recover my system.i can however use the delete button to get me to bios but I don,t know what to do then. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I do NOT know that this is the "best" way to go, but I suggest that, when rebooting, you find the mechanism for booting from your CD-ROM; this may be in the bios setting, or there may be a separate key to press. You'll only see the message on the screen for a few seconds, and when you do, press either the DEL that you've tried or whatever other button is indicated. Set the CD-ROM to be the first device in the boot series, place your XP CD-ROM in the driver, and see what you can come up with; perhaps a repair-in-place is called for.

Sorry, I cannot help you, as I have no way of figuring out how to make your CD-ROM drive the boot device; it's up to you and the manufacturer of your computer. (Perhaps if you were to post the computer make & model, someone here would know how to help you.)

I ran into the same problem. There are two ways that I know of. It would be nice if the self proclaimed guru's who write the tech articles would explain this properly but the ones I read all tell you to just reverse what you did...they don't explain how to get back to msconfig from safe mode. Method 1: you can create an xp boot disk and go that route. I forget all the details to this method. But you can create the diskette at bootdisk.com (awesome site that has helped me out many a time) and once you boot up there is a way to alter the boot.ini file. Sorry but I lost the directions. Method 2: tried and tested moments ago - boot up in safe mode - bring up taskmgr (alt/ctl/del) - Select 'file' from the pulldown: - either use the browse button to get to the following path and double click on msconfig.exe or type the entire path in by hand C:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe This will bring you back to msconfig screen. - From there you can select the boot.ini tab and unselect the /SAFEBOOT check box. - Restart your PC and you should be ok
