Do I have to disable Norton firewall to install spypot?
and does it come with instructions on how to use it?
Thanks, Miller

If you initiate the download the firewall should let it pass without a problem. Spybot
has a good help/tutorial section. In the folder it makes in your start menu/programs
list it gives you the choice to start it in simple or advanced mode. I prefer advanced
as it has a tool for looking at and changing the programs that run at startup, the
programs that run in the background. I use that all the time. So many programs set
themselves to run all the time, taking up RAM and CPU cycles. Thin them out to just
the ones you need.

Spybot will tell you - every time you run it - that you do so at your own risk. Read
the introduction and be a little cautious with you registry. It is well worth the
time and effort but careless use can drive you up a tree.
I use it daily and have NEVER had a problem. Spybot allows you to undo everything
it does if something goes wrong.

The registry is about the same as the old *.ini files that Windows used. It tells
windows all the details about your computer and available programs, hardware etc.
If something gets messed up, your computer may do anything from have a brief hangup
to refusal to start. It might be best to have Spybot skip the registry until you
have learned more about it. May of us do that or restrict registry scan to occasional
runs. Spybot will give you added advice on this subject also.
