Hey folks, about a week ago I started getting this warning "3a0: qttask.exe - no disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive device\harddisk2\DR5." What is it and how can I get rid of that?

That's the Quick Time tray application. Disable it from running at start up.

Go to Start --> Run... Type msconfig. In the window that opens click the startup tab and uncheck the box for qttask.exe.

in Quicktime, go to EDIT, Preferences, Quicktime preferences...Under the 'Browser Plug-in' selection, uncheck the checkbox that says Quicktime system try icon.

I think that the more important question is: My installation of Quicktime has been working for a long time and I had never seen this error message until recently. What caused the change, and is there a virus / apple update/ xpupdate that is associated with or caused this. If this is an Apple or Microsoft bug, we should be reporting it. If it is a virus...We should know that and figure out how to clean the systems.

I just had the same problem occur after I "repaired" my installed coppy of MS Office. Not sure why it came up [again]. In any case, I tried your solution and it worked like a charm. THANKS!

I started to have the same problem after I plugged in a new card reader to my USB port. So I do not leave it plugged in all the time, only when I want to use it. When I unplug it the error message does not come up.

the Fix for: qttask.exe -atboottime

I realize this is an old post but many people seem to not understand that even by
disabling qttask via QuickTime it still runs in the back ground for a bit at boot
time or rather "-atboottime" as the switch is.

Here is how to get rid of it all together (requires regedit):

1) back up your registry before attempting this.
2) browse to HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3) find the entry for qttask and delete it
4) exit regedit and reboot

got same message. went to registry, tried to do as told (even thought of placing semicolon in front of command, so i wouldn't lose it altogether, but when i got to Run (after following the rest of the tree, there was no reference to qttask at all!. I have no idea where it went! restarted my computer, and the error message went away. what do i do if it comes back?
