One of these pop-ups infected my XP computer with the W32/blaster.worm while online downloading the Security and Critical Updates from Microsoft before I had installed antivirus software. Good tip, and thanks - even if I found it a day too late!

All you needed was an active firewall....no pop-up stopper in the world is gonna stop a trojan/virus/worm.

ive recently started geting some new pop ups the same way i did before i disabled the messenger service in services.msg. even though i have the messenger service disabled. is anyone else having this problem?

Following that tip would not have prevented you from getting the blaster worm.

I'd recheck to make sure that it's still disabled.
