How do I change Window's default install directory?

I have a question about How
do I set an application's default directory?:
How can I set Windows' default install directory? I have two partitions; one has
windows installed on it and is much smaller than my other directory. Currently,
Windows wants to install everything by Program Files folder on the drive that it
is installed on. I would like it to, by default, use a different directory. Any
suggestions?
Also, I would like to set a different 'temp' directory as well.
Thanks

Not promising this won't have unwanted side effects...it might be better to just
designate your install locations manually. But here goes...
Go to Run.
Type: regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
On the right side, find the string called ProgramFilesDir and modify it to the desired
path.

The suggestion below works, but.....
In XP, all of the annoying program subdirectories) (NetMeeting, Frontpage, etc) that
you cannot get rid of in the default directory (usually c:\program files\), will
magically appear in your newly-designated installation directory.
In other words, MicroJunk will see your change, and act on it for its own purposes.....

This will also prevent some Windows Updates from installing properly. For example,
Windows update KB905915 (and others) will fail before it has begun, indicating it
was "canceled."
In that case you will have to undo this change, apply the update, and then redo this
change.
It's not a particularly good idea (speaking from experience).
