Question about 'Stop Pop-Up Spam Messages'

I have a question about Stop Pop-Up Spam Messages:

I have done everything : disabled the messenger, unchecked internet explorer in the computer components area and installed a new browser (mozilla). But, after all that, I AM STILL GETTING IE Pop-ups! How can I get IE to stop popping up on my computer? Please help. I am a broadband user so they can pile up during the day.

Thats just it!! I don't need a pop-up stopper application. My new browser has pop up protection built-in. I just want to get rid of the possibility of Microsoft Internet Explorer popping up. What can I do to eliminate the explorer from the computer so that popups can't reach it. Since I don't use it, I don't want to pay for pop up protection, and I shouldn't have to....I just want it to go away permenently. Can anyone help?

Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>Advanced....Allow per session cookies, block third party, accept first party, over-ride cookie handling.....IE6.0......You need to run SpyBot everyday and have a firewall in place.

Audrie, I share your frustration. I have had the same problem with my PC and done all that you have done with no success (BTW, Mozilla Firefox is a much better browser than IE). Here is the solution that should work for you (Windows 2000 OS): Go to "control panel" and click on "administrative tools", then scroll down to "services". A new window will open that lists a number of installed services. Locate the "messenger" service. Right click on it and choose "properties" from the pop-up menu. You'll get another dialog window where you will change the properties to set the startup type from automatic to "manual", and then click the "stop" button to kill the service. Finally hit "apply" and your problems should be over. If your PC has a Win XP OS, then the steps will be slightly different (e.g., names of buttons in quotes above will be different but similar). If you use Internet Messenger or something similar, you may have to make additional adjustments to get instant messaging turned on when needed. Cheers.
