Question about 'Turn Off the CD-ROM Autorun'

I have a question about Turn Off the CD-ROM Autorun:

As far as I can see tweakui does not really fix this annoyance for me. All I want to turn off is autorun for executables (e.g. game discs like Civ III or Europa Universalis) because I am likely to be invoking them from an icon (in some cases giving me tailored entry to the game). I'm quite happy to let autorun start up a music CD as this is almost always why I will be loading it. But tweakui is kind of all or nothing and the menu options in XP allow tuning for every other kind of CD than the simple executable. So I'm back to using the shift key. But how annoying is that, to have to time how long to hold it down instead of getting on with your life?

Tried applying WinXP-Solution 1 in Article 03-018 to have auto-run work for musical CDs but to take no action for the others?

I can turn off pictures and videos and mixed (whatever that means), etc.; but not everyday game CDs that are mostly only loaded to authenticate ownership and have autorun on them. some of these dive straight into install mode in certain circumstances.

I was thinking that perhaps "mixed" might include those executables. If not, looks like you will have to turn auto-run off altogether, and manually start your musical CDs.

The solution is to turn off AutoPlay with gpedit.msc ( as I described in my other
message ). That will turn of autorun programs/executables, but leave auto playing
of audio CDs ( unless of course you turned that off in the CD properties dialog )

You can do it by editing the registry :
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
There is a Value "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" , change it to 0xFF and it will turn off Autplay/run
on all drives. This is the same thing that gpedit.msc does.

See the MS documentation of this registry entry at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/regentry/91525.asp
