You probably have the keyboard setting for a different region or language. Try control
panel, regional and language options, languages tab, click details. Check that the
default language is the one you want (e.g. English US, or English UK, or other variants
depending on where you are). If the one you want is not shown in the drop down box,
click add and in the new drop down box select the one you want.
