Question about 'How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall'

.I have a question about How
to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall:
I am networking with WinXP, Win2K and a Win98 computers. I use a cross-over cable,
as I only occasionally need to network to the Win 98 computer.
Everything works OK with the XP computer's firewall disabled. I then tried your
fix to allow the Xp's firewall to be enabled and this fails to work with any of the
alternative port connections suggested.
The only difference that I can see with my set up, is that I have a manually assigned
IP address for each computer (this was to prevent the “Auto-IP-Config” start up delay
on the Win98 computer).
On the XP computer the IP address is "192.168.0.2" and it was this that I typed in
for the new ‘File Sharing’ services instead of “127.0.0.1”, as per step '6' in the
article.
Has anyone any suggestions?

What does it do if you change back to the local host (127.0.0.1)? That is the "normal"
proxy for a lot of the built-in services and simple file sharing seems to fit that
bill. Otherwise, you might consider turning off simple file sharing and going with
"real" networking.

I had tried using the suggested host code in my first attempt to set this up and
that allowed me to access files on the 2K and 98 computers from the xp computer,
but it would not work the other round, to allow the xp' s files to be accessed.
I should also clarify one point that could make a difference, in that all the computers
are set up to have independent internet access, as they are not normally connected
up as a network (the XP computer is a laptop)
