Question about 'Stop Pop-Up Spam Messages'

I have a question about Stop
Pop-Up Spam Messages:
In spite of my PopSwatter, Sygate firewall, and Spy Sweeper, some pop-ups are still
getting through to my PC, as follows:
LowerMyBills.com, Automotive.com, Termfinder.com, McAfeew 7.0 free Block the Pop,
Martin Beek(icB.exe), Free Haunted House (Freeze.com), and Zero Ads.
I do not want to spend money on software.
Suggestions anyone?

Use Spybot and Adaware and get a decent browser with popup blocking built in http://downloads.mozdev.org/seb/MozillaFirebird-webinstall.exe

Andy,
Spy Bot spotted additional "dangerous" stuff in the registry and some cookies plus
the usual stuff that's unavoidable. But Spy Bot will not remove any of it unless
I purchase the product. I'm trying to avoid spending money on software. Adaware has
already been applied with so so results.
I'm not a geek, so what do you mean by a "browser". I probably have one, but I don't
know what you mean.

Hmmm. My SpyBot removes things, and mine's free.
If you don't have a firewall, you should get one or maybe use the one built-in to
XP. Some spam comes through the Messenger Service, not through the browser. A firewall
should stop it, or you can disable the Messenger Service.
I.E. is a browser. I use I.E., but I also have the free PopupStopper.
I don't get any popups.

Steve,
"I.E." may be a browser, but that does not tell us what a browser is. What's a browser?
Jeff already said he uses a firewall.

I guess you are serious. Browser is short for Web Browser. It's the program you
use to browse the web, visit web sites, etc.
Internet Explorer is pretty good but it no doubt has some security holes, and it's
the target of most of the malicious perverts that try to cause trouble on the internet.
You may be safer using another one. I've heard that Mozilla, Netscape, and Opera
are good browsers. You would probably have less trouble with viruses, trojans, etc.,
if you used one of these instead of I.E.

Steve,
Ah so, now I see. I suppose I'll have to buy a browser now? If not, I'll just have
to live with I.E. I am presently using another spysweeper that comes highly recommended.
It's free but it's tricky to use, "Spybot - Search & Destroy". One very helpful site,
for anyone following this string, is Devilin's Fan Club . This is an international
thing. Devilin's in UK, Spybot in Deutschland. "Deutschland . . . uber alles in der
Weld." Jawohl!
If anyone has not yet been infected with n-CASE, you haven't lived through hell yet.
Down with n-CASE! Write your Congressman, or PM, or Rabbi or whomever to rid the
world of n-CASE..

Always run with 'Messenger' service disabled (this is not the same as MSN messanger,
but part of the operating system. Go to RUN: msconfig.exe ...click the tab for 'services'
and uncheck messenger...you have to reboot as well.
