Windows Explorer Problem!

Hi, I am having a windows explorer problem. It just started today and is very annoying. Every once in a while if im accessing things like, control panel, my computer, my documents, etc. i get this error that pops up. Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then i press ok, my task bar at the bottom of the screen disapears for a minute, reappears and then either everything is normal, or the computer starts running hella slow. Like a 300 mhz machine with 64 megs of ram. In the error details It says Mod Name: Jscript.dll and Appname: explorer.exe. I have alot on the drive and would like to avoid reinstalling the OS if possible. And i understand i could do a system restore to prev. date. But if possible i would like to find out whats causing it. I am running norton antivirus and firewall. I updated my virus definitions and it says im virus free. I am running an amd athlon xp 2000, 512 2700 ddr ram, 80 gb HD., Windows Xp Pro With All Avail Updates. Thanx for any help that u can give me,,,peace

I found your message because I've been looking for the answer myself. I encountered the same problem today - all day! - and I can't figure out what the problem is. Rebooting doesn't help. I'm completely up to date on virus programs and Windows updates, and I've run McAfee a few times. It has to be more than mere coincidence that we began experiencing the same problem on the same day. I would also welcome some help!

Yeah, that definitely sounds like more than a coincidence. With the advice from other forums i installed ad-aware. And ran that program. It basically removes all of the spyware and what not from your comp. I thought it did the trick, but i guess not. Its the same exact message, except when u look at the mod name in the details its now ntdll.dll instead of jscript.dll. If anyone comes up with any answers for this prob please hit me up. and if i hear anything beach-music ill letcha know...

If you have not installed any new apps or programs
recently, I would start with spyware check.
Download, update and run:
SpyBot Search & Destroy and
Ad-aware
I would also recommend an online AVscan as many of
the recent virii are designed to affect installed AV
programs especially Norton.
See if this helps at all.

Good Luck,

This sounds to me as if it is a problem with the javascript dll (jscript.dll). I think i saw a windows update concerning javascript the other day so ensure that you have all the updates installed. If that doesnt work try reinstalling internet explorer which may make a new copy of the javascript dll. Other than that i would reinstall windows.

I have this problem too, I have ad-aware and norton but nothing has worked. Re-installing windows? How do you do that? And doesn't it get rid of all of your work?
