Can not delete portalsearching.com

After doing some surfing, I descovered I had picked up a program (I think) that I
did not download. It links me to portalsearching.com, has added a toolbar, and keeps
adding shortcuts on the desktop and favorites to my list. The thing that gets me
is I can not delete or remove it. It has lodged itself under WINNT\Downloaded Program
Files. It is called BHO.clsInetSpeak and the code base is portalsearching.com/BHO.CAB.
When I try to remove it, I get a message saying it is in use and can not be removed,
to close programs using it, and reboot Windows. But when I try to get in there again
to remove it, I get the same message. Can someone help me in getting rid of this
thing?

"how I would go about keeping ... my Favourites folder clear of unwanted sites."
NEVER click OK on a dialog box without reading it and knowing what you are accepting.
Some dialog boxes have no way to close them except to hit a single button. Those
are the really bad ones. If you have to, shut down IE with the Task Manager to close
the dialog box.
You clicked on the button to get rid of one of those dialog boxes initiating the
download and install that you don't think you did.

Go to the Windows Folder in "Windows" Explorer. Then find the file "Regedit"-open
it up. Then under "edit" click on "find" type in "Portal". This will go to all strings
or names involving "portal". When you find "Portal Searching" delete it by using
your right click of the mouse button and "delete". Continue finding by pressing "F3"
this will find the next instance of "Portal Seaching" Delete all instances of "portal
searching" and keep doing same until the registry has finished searching and all
instances of "Portal Searching" are gone. Hope this will help-it did for me.
Willie.

I also got portalsearching.com. I don't know how or when it was down loaded, but
I couldn't delete it.
I tried starting in safe mode and deleting it, that didn't work. I used the method
suggested by Willie, but I also had to delete all instances of BHO. Bill

I found a helpful code to rid my pc of portal bug. I tried it and in 3-4 seconds
the nasty bugger was gone. I went into my Windows Explorer folder under Downloaded
Programs and the status said "Damaged." Whereas before I could not delete the program,
I erased the *#@!!! with no problem. I could then also delete all of the annoying
icons that had appeared on my desktop. Here is the address: http://www.portalsearching.com/uninstall.exe

I too had picked up the same annoyance. I was successfull at removing it by logging
into safe mode as administrator and uninistalling the BHO.clsInetSpeak from the windows\downloaded
folder. Next, I opened up regedit did a search on portal and deleted all occurances
of it with the exception of mmportal. Rebooted my computer and the annoyance was
gone. Hope this works for you.

All efforts above tried.
regedit and system search
uninstall from portal search
AdAware - latestest ver
Spybot - latest ver
None get rid of it. When I reboot my home page is set to \\t:\ or something like
it and my default search pages are all set to www.portalsearching.com.
Any suggestions?
I would love to see someone sue these people/companines for millions of dollars in
lost time and wages caused in an attempt to reset and remove their program!!!!
