Is it safe to delete memory.dmp from the windows directory? It takes up about 500MB so it would be nice to get rid of it! Thanks

It's only used by programmers and people who know how to debug programs, or need to send the debugging info to MS in this case. Yes, you can delete it and you can also turn off the memory dump or set it to dump only a short abbreviated amount of data. Control Panel> system> advanced> startup and recovery> settings> write debugging information box> (drop down box to select the type of memory dump or non at all). C K

I have a computer that I am using till I can get mine. It has 4gig HD, and the person that gave this to me installed Win XP Prol .It constantly shows low disk . I need to delete 200MB of files. Can you. I read what to do for windows 98 and I am not sure what previous OS was used. I need to know what I can safely delete. I have gotten rid of all programs that I could. I use this for research on the internet only. How do i turn off windows update. It started showing low disk space after the updates started. I could not update win service pk 2. I do not store vital information in the system so I am not so worried about this. I need this for important research for an often fatal disease. Sorry I could not keep this short. I used Nortons and other than that I only have the programs I need to surf the net.

You may want to consider installing a smaller OS as well. Find someone with Win95 or 98 to loan you to disk so you can have more space on this research-only box
