I would like to know how to copy software from a laptop to my desktop. Files are
to big to use a floppy. Can I connect them with a phone cord and copy over it? Thanks
in advance for your help. Stan

Stan ...
"no" on the 'phone cord, although you may be able to make a home network using cross-over
cable. More technical regulars on this forum can help here.
In the meantime, you might try
1) copying your laptop files onto a CD and moving the CD to the desktop;
2) there's also using zip disks (that would require a zip drive, available as external
w/USB connection for <$50), and/or
3) you might also try file compression, zipping the full file into a lesser sized
*.zip.
Hope this is helpful to you.

You can network the PC's together with one of three types of cables, a crossover
ethernet cable or a usb cable, or
a seriial port cable, designed for the same thing. My favorite new device
is a usb thumb drive. If the laptop has no cdrw drive,
ethernet port or usb port or serial port, then your pretty much
limited to floppy. If you have one of the above ports,
then hook up the appropriate cable, and run the network connection wizard on both
computers.

Ethernet is the way to go for large files. It has a 100mb capability, though I understand
firewire or USB2 is considerably faster. Get a crossover cable for your ethernet
ports, use your network wizards, and enjoy speeds the Internet can only dream about.
